Imerc (www.imerc.ie) organised for international superstar yacht racer Alex Thomson to come to Cork to give a public lecture in Cork City Hall on Thursday October 16th. Amongst his other achievements, Alex was the youngest round the world race winner when he won the Clipper Round the World Race. He was also a viral internet sensation earlier this year when he invented 'The Mast Walk'.
Jospa have won the Imerc Innovator of the Year Competition. The award rewards innovation in the maritime and energy sphere and is open to anyone who has an innovative technology, product, service or process that will positively influence the development of Ireland’s maritime and energy economy. Jospa have developed an “Adjustable Break Fin” that might double the energy capture of wave energy converters at much less than 10% extra costs. This has the potential to be a game changer in wave energy technology which has so far lagged behind wind energy.
