Launch of the George Boole 200 Celebrations. It’s a bi-locational event so there is a launch in Dublin happening at the same time and An Taoiseach will be ‘speaking’ in cork via video link-up. For background was a self-taught mathematical genius who was UCC's first professor of mathematics and who is widely regarded as one of the most significant pioneers of the information age. The ‘George Boole 200’ celebrations will be a year-long series of local, national and international events to celebrate the man who’s work provides the mathematical and logical underpinning of computers, not only in their languages, but also in their construction.
