Midleton on the search for Christmas Angels
.
Midleton & Area Chamber of Commerce are on the search for some local Angels this Christmas to bring some extra joy to children in need.
.
In conjunction with St Vincent de Paul and Midleton Credit Union, the Chamber have launched a new gift initiative called 'Be Someone's Angel this Christmas' where members of the public are invited to buy a gift for a particular child in need.
.
The Chamber have hung special Angel decorations from the Christmas Tree in the Credit Union, each with details of a particular child. The initiative gives members of the public an opportunity to donate a toy or gift for local children through SVdP. Shoppers choose an Angel decoration from the tree to whom they would like to donate a gift – for example, a boy or girl and the age of the recipient. The gift must be returned to the Credit Union by Saturday December 20th in time for St Vincent de Paul to deliver in time for Christmas.
.
“This is such a wonderful initiative and the Chamber are thrilled to be involved with it," explained Chamber President Seamus Cunningham.
.
"The 'Be Someone's Angel this Christmas' is a project which encompasses the true meaning of Christmas – helping those who are struggling the most in any way we can,” he added.
.
"We are not asking people to buy expensive gifts but something small and appropriate for the child detailed on the back of their Angel, just to make sure as many children as possible have a happy Christmas this year."
.
Liam Garde, member of the local branch of Saint Vincent de Paul in Midelton, comments: “Over the past number of years we have seen more and more families approach us for help, especially over the festive period when money is very scarce. Families are finding increasingly difficult to provide for basic needs such as heating their homes, clothing their children and putting food on the table. The demands of Christmas and trying to find money for gifts can make it overwhelmingly stressful for families.'
.
“The Chamber's initiative ‘Be Someone's Angel this Christmas’ is a great way for local people who can to help other local families in need. Buying one of these gifts will bring a smile to a local child whose family may be facing financial difficulties this Christmas. We are grateful and delighted to be involved.”
