(KINSALE RNLI RAFT RACE = SATURDAY 2nd AUGUST : BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND/ Martin Shanahan of Kinsale’s Fishy Fishy restaurant will fire the starter’s pistol for the Kinsale RNLI Raft Race on Bank Holiday Saturday, 2nd August. The raft race makes a welcome return to the Bank Holiday festivities that include the Kinsale Regatta. Up to 20 rafts are expected to take part in the race that starts at the Bulman bar in Summercove at 3.30pm and ends at the White Lady Hotel. The charity fun race is organised by volunteer crew members of the RNLI, the charity that saves lives at sea. Teams of between 4 and 6 people are invited to decorate their rafts and wear fancy dress. A minimum entry fee of €20 is required for each crewmember. The first team to plant their mast in the car park of the White Lady Hotel after the race will win the coveted trophy, with additional prizes for Best Raft Design and Best Fancy Dress.
