LC-swim-01
Taking part in their first Christmas day swim at Garretstown, Co. Cork is Niall McLaughlin, from Ballinaspittle with daughter Molly. Approx 94 'swimmers' took to the water for a very fast dip in stormy, wet and windy conditions on Christmas morning. XX/EE NEWS Christmas Day swim at Garrylucas Strand 11.30am. The Christmas swim is a joint fundraiser for Jack and also The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Jack Hegarty was born on 10 Dec 2014, son of Jacinta Collins and Justin Hegarty, Kinsale, Co Cork. Jack was born a healthy baby but unfortunately 1 hour after birth was deprived of oxygen for a significant length of time resulting in a brain injury which has caused a significant delay in his motor skills development. In order for Jack to reach his full potential and recover from his injury, he requires intensive rehabilitation through neuro movement lessons which he is currently receiving in San Francisco and Denmark (Anat Baniel Method) and locally in Cork (Feldenkrais method). It is critical that Jack does these intensive lessons monthly for the first 2 to 3 years of life, after which time he will do these lessons less frequent after he is up on his feet. Funds raised from the swim will contribute towards the cost of Jacks rehabilitation. Jacks family are extremely grateful to Kilmacsimon Swimming and Rowing Club for organising this Christmas Day Swim in Garrettstown at 11:30 a.m.
