 Swimmers run down the beach as approx 94 'swimmers' took to the water for a very fast dip in stormy, wet and windy conditions on Christmas morning. XX/EE NEWS Christmas Day swim at Garrylucas Strand 11.30am. The Christmas swim is a joint fundraiser for Jack and also The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust. Jack Hegarty was born on 10 Dec 2014, son of Jacinta Collins and Justin Hegarty, Kinsale, Co Cork. Jack was born a healthy baby but unfortunately 1 hour after birth was deprived of oxygen for a significant length of time resulting in a brain injury which has caused a significant delay in his motor skills development. In order for Jack to reach his full potential and recover from his injury, he requires intensive rehabilitation through neuro movement lessons which he is currently receiving in San Francisco and Denmark (Anat Baniel Method) and locally in Cork (Feldenkrais method). It is critical that Jack does these intensive lessons monthly for the first 2 to 3 years of life, after which time he will do these lessons less frequent after he is up on his feet. Funds raised from the swim will contribute towards the cost of Jacks rehabilitation. Jacks family are extremely grateful to Kilmacsimon Swimming and Rowing Club for organising this Christmas Day Swim in Garrettstown.

Blarney Street CBS Brass Band puts the shine on Christmas;
Supported by Music Generation Cork City and in partnership with Cork Academy of Music, The Blarney Street CBS School brass band performed their annual Christmas concert today with over 40 young musicians taking to the stage.

The concert took place at Blarney St CBS and the children filled the hall with wonderful performances of traditional, as well as more contemporary tunes and Carols to celebrate the Christmas season.

Offered to 4th, 5th and 6th year primary school children, the brass programme has been running at the school for a number of years with weekly tuition in a number of instruments, including cornet, baritone, euphonium, trombone and saxophone. Having established a school brass band in partnership with The Cork Academy of Music, young musicians are given the opportunity to perform at both school and public events throughout the year.
Following the Christmas concert, school music teacher and coordinator, Brenda Griffin said,
 "We were delighted with today's turnout; the atmosphere was electric! The boys played to a jam packed audience and had them clapping and singing along, which got everyone in the mood for Christmas. We also featured ten soloists during the performance which added a lovely dynamic to the concert. We received some great feedback from the parents who have seen how their children's playing has not only improved, but their confidence boosted no end."
